A Litigation Practice Built on Preparation and Strategy
Trillium Law is a Hamilton-based litigation firm focused on family law, child protection and criminal defence.
We represent individuals and families in disputes that can affect their children, relationships, liberty, finances and future. Our work ranges from negotiated resolutions and settlement conferences to urgent motions, contested hearings and trials.
Our approach is straightforward: understand the evidence, identify the issues that matter, develop the strategy, and prepare the case for what comes next.
Experience From Different Sides of the Courtroom
Paul Tut is a Hamilton lawyer and litigator with extensive experience in family law, child protection and criminal proceedings.
Before entering private practice, Paul served as in-house counsel to a Children's Aid Society and as Crown Counsel with Ontario's Ministry of the Attorney General.
That background provides a valuable perspective when assessing evidence, anticipating opposing positions, evaluating litigation risk and determining how a case should be presented in court.
Today, Paul represents clients before courts throughout Ontario and before the Child and Family Services Review Board.
His litigation practice includes:
- Family law motions, conferences and trials
- High-conflict parenting proceedings
- Child protection proceedings involving Children's Aid Societies
- Temporary care and status review proceedings
- Criminal prosecutions and trials
- Administrative proceedings
Resolution Where Possible. Litigation Where Necessary.
Going to court is not always the best outcome.
Effective litigation includes knowing when to negotiate, when to make a reasonable settlement proposal, and when a client's interests require the court to decide the issue.
We approach settlement from a position of preparation.
When a matter cannot be resolved on appropriate terms, we are prepared to litigate it.
